Strategic Sourcing Manager Law

Role Purpose:

The Strategic Sourcing Manager Law is responsible for the execution of the Law Category vision and strategy across multiple sub-categories of spend. He/She develops and executes Global Supply Management (GSM) sourcing strategies. Specifically, the Global Strategic Sourcing Manager will need to have the experience and attitude to support the Law Department both Strategically and Operationally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Builds and maintains a robust understanding of the client’s functional strategy, key drivers and current issues to inform the development of product/service implementation strategies that will meet client needs, and which reflect external market trends, competition considerations, macro-economic factors and Corning’s strategic direction.
  • Assists the Global Strategic Sourcing Manager in developing Strategic Sourcing plans and objectives (short & long term) based on forecasts of future demand and taking into account economic and currency trends and conditions that affect GSM, the business, and the legal services market.
  • Executes and supports Category-based sourcing processes for assessing and fulfilling current and future sourcing needs.
  • Demonstrates thought leadership in Procurement for legal services. Able to collaborate and influence stakeholders with innovative actions to achieve savings and value.
  • Manages or supports sourcing activities across strategic and operational projects.
  • Liaises with internal clients & identifies specific sourcing projects/initiatives for the year including expected savings, resource requirements and associated timescales for completion.
  • Focuses on rationalizing the vendor base for all subcategories and/or regions whilst fostering supplier development through supporting the building of a world class internal vendor management capability.
  • Executes strategies to extract supply-side savings and manage demand-side consumption in order to lower Corning’s Total Cost of Ownership for external spend as it relates to the specified category.
  • Collaborates with colleagues and influences activities to achieve positive outcomes in the interests of the wider Corning business.
  • Reports and highlights operational, regulatory and other risks to the Global Strategic Sourcing Manager. Takes ownership for sourcing issues and actively participates in their resolution.
  • Actively supports knowledge management. Continually scans the category and industry environment to gather insights, develops knowledge artifacts and shares with key stakeholders and colleagues.
  • Owns the responsibility of the Supplier Relationship Management process for Law sub-categories.
  • Champions and advocates for the Global Buying Policy. Ensures compliance.

Technical / Experience:

  • 10 of experience in Legal and Professional Services in a similar role within a large international Procurement Organization. Experience in Law Operations is a plus.
  • Experience in managing complex sourcing projects in Legal Services Category, recognized as Legal market expert
  • Strong experience in commercial and contractual negotiations, driving contracts to signature, assuring legal and compliance alignments with corporate control functions.
  • Proven record of successful digital capabilities integration in Category strategies
  • Optimist and self-organized with a solid “Can-Do” Attitude
  • Strategic Thinker as well as an “executer” with emphasis on getting things done in right quality and on time.
  • Strong team player, able to work in virtual, global teams
  • Excellent relationship management, analytical, problem solving, financial management, strategic agility, communication, influencing and presentation skills
  • Excellent communication skills (written/verbal)
  • High energy, flexible and with the ability to work in a fast-paced US and international business environment that privileges consensus.

Category Manager, Legal Services 


Job Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey

The Category Manager, Legal Services role will support a variety of senior business leaders and suppliers in completing a wide range of Legal Services for the Enterprise globally. This position requires outstanding relationship-building, influencing and collaboration skills! Strong communication and organization skills are a must. A successful candidate will be capable of leading geographically disparate teams of individuals to implement with excellence and consistency under each of the pertinent programs.

The individual will provide Global and Regional Leadership for developing end-to-end category engagement, such as category strategy development, maintaining key relationships within the business, and managing key supplier relationships. The position must shape, connect and lead resources to deliver on J&J’s most strategic imperatives!

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and drive the Procurement vision for, with and through the business partner community
  • Develop the vision, strategy and implementation plan for a specific category or categories of spend that will effectively meet the long-range requirements of the business partners and deliver the maximum value for J&J
  • Engage directly with law firms and the leadership of key suppliers to assure alignment of JNJ’s objectives is achieved, including quality, reliability, innovation and cost
  • Understand long range business needs and engage in forward thinking strategies and partnering to ensure alignment.
  • Deliver on financial, service, reliability, quality, innovation, and growth commitments
  • Build and maintain relationships throughout JNJ that result in dynamic interactive dialogue on a broad range of perspectives and information critical to the development of efficient approaches and solutions
  • Develop deep supplier relationships with strategic suppliers to include data review and analysis, performance management and development and improvement of end-to-end value, and bring innovation to the business
  • Identify, develop, and ensure the implementation of Procurement goals and category strategies, based on deep subject matter expertise and an informal understanding of industry/market dynamics
  • Ensure performance against established targets for all Procurement goals
  • Call out issues that may impact the Global Procurement organization

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Manage supplier relationships, communicate changes to category strategy, implement collaborative initiatives, and monitor supplier contract negotiations
  • Facilitate the development, implementation, and maintenance of processes, policies, guidelines, Standard Operating Procedures, and Business Operating Principles
  • Lead team meetings and provide updates to Global Procurement Leadership
  • Manage & prioritize portfolio of Procurement segment (Pharm, MD&D and/or Consumer) specific initiatives

Qualifications:
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree is required
  • A minimum of 6 years of working experience in a related field is required
  • Broad-based understanding of business operations and practices is required
  • Leadership, communication, influencing, and collaboration skills are required
  • Ability to show judgment in developing innovative approaches, prioritizing requests, and resolving issues displaying customer focused solutions especially regarding management is required
  • Strong project management, verbal, and written skills as well as a proven track record to continuously improve an organization is required
  • Msut have a strong level of credibility with internal customers, and with the supplier community
  • Travel up to 10% domestic & international may be required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • JD, MBA or other advanced degree is preferred
  • High proficiency with core Procurement skills (e.g., supplier management and performance, supply market analysis, Category Management, Procurement Excellence, etc.) is preferred
  • Ability to influence and understand differing needs of business partners is preferred
  • Legal background is preferred
